There is really not a whole lot to say about Darkness Forever. A typical Live-album it is.
Pretty good sound, however Hank seems notably stamped already and especially so on the recordings of their last concert on Mars in Oslo on 12.18.1998 where he is miles away from his brilliant musical performances of those past days.
Personally, I have seen TRBNGR perform live three times in total (among those the show in the Stahlwerk, Düsseldorf, just a few weeks before their split). Especially the shows have been magnificent and have contributed a lot to their outstanding reputation. For this reason a record of a live concert is a great thing, it just keeps lacking the visual components.
But still, Darkness Forever is a relict of eternity, which is particularly effective in proofing that those supposedly very different songs of the Ass Cobra and Apocalypse Dudes phases go very well together in a live performance. Especially the Ass Cobra songs have experienced a boost in quality when performed in their new GlamRock version. (Unfortunately TRBNGR hardly ever played songs of the phase before Ass Cobra - so naturally none of those can be found on Darkness Forever). |
